In a surprising turn of events, Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the Paris Olympics after being found overweight by 100 grams. Phogat, who was set to compete in the women’s 50kg gold medal match, failed to make the required weight. Consequently, she missed out on winning a wrestling medal at the Paris Olympics altogether.
According to the regulations, Phogat is not even eligible for a silver medal due to this disqualification.
“Despite the best efforts by the team through the night, she weighed in a few grams over 50kg this morning,” stated the Indian Olympic Association after her disqualification.
