Provide Adequate Relief to Flood Victims of Poonch: Dr Shazad

Jammu and Kashmir Border Area Development, (JKBADC) a registered body working for the welfare of residents of border areas have urged the Jammu and Kashmir government to strengthen disaster management capacity in district Poonch as the border district is vulnerable and prone to different kinds of disasters including Earthquakes, Flashfloods, Snow Avalanche, Landslides and other natural disaster risks.

Dr Shazad Ahmed Malik, former Vice Chancellor and Chairman of JKBADC expressing sorrow over the havoc caused by recent floods due to incessant rain in district Poonch causing loss to the innocent residents of the border town have demanded adequate relief for the victims of the floods.

The former VC requested the Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir government to depute an empowered group of officers to access the losses caused due to these floods and also to suggest long term measures to prevent and minimize losses due to these kinds of floods in future.

Dr Shazad also asked the deputy commissioner Poonch to strengthen District Disaster Risk Reduction Plan and include sufficient number of men and upgraded machinery at the disposal of the concerned officers for timely action to save lives and property in case of such eventualities. He said that there is also an urgent need to rush specialize medical teams to the flood effected areas to prevent water borne diseases.
