Jammu & Kashmir Border Area Development Conference (JK-BADC), a registered organization working for the welfare of residents of border areas of J & K have strongly advocated for setting up more administrative units in J & K for providing better administration & governance experience to the people. The organization stated that last administrative district units were constituted over 16 years ago in year 2006 wherein 8 new districts were carved out & total number of district rose from 14 to 20 excluding Ladakh region.
Dr Shazad Ahmed Malik, Chairman of JK-BADC & former VC today appealed the government to carve out & establish more new districts in J & K & more specifically in border areas for ensuring overall development of all under developed regions. Citing the example of Sub Division Mendhar of district Poonch, he said that Mendhar includes three blocks, three tehsils & a Sub division which is spread over 100s of Kilometers & locals residing in far off border village of Mendhar, Mankote or Balakote have to travel so long to reach district headquarter Poonch to present their demands before the administration.
He said like Mendhar many other under developed areas of J & K also qualify all requirements to be upgraded as district(s), so Government must give a serious thought to this genuine demand of creating more districts in J & K. He also demanded creation of more Tehsils and Sub Divisions in J&K .
